Splitting the Backup Files

Genie Games Backup uses standard ZIP format compression. However, when backing up using compression each produced file can not exceed 2GB in size, thus, for large data, Genie Games Backup splits the backup set into multiple linked files with sequentially numbered extensions (e.g. .001 .002 .003 etc ...) with the last file in the series assigned the main (.gbp) extension.

The default split size for backup files is 2GB, this means that if during backup a file reaches 2GB a new backup file will be created, and so no, until all the data has been backed up.

When backing up to a Local/LAN location, users can specify a custom split size by doing the following:

  1. From the left navigation menu in the backup wizard select Where to Backup

  2. Select Local/LAN Location

  3. From the Split files at combobox choose a custom split size or type a value directly in the box
